It was a busy day for Music Men quartets, as they performed Singing Valentines throughout the Rochester area on Valentine's Day. Over 30 lucky people received a Singing Valentine, Rose and a card from their special someone this year. A memorable day for singers and valentines alike! If this sounds like something you would like to experience next Valentine's Day, check back to this website next February for registration!
Our Singing Valentines were featured on local news channel KTTC and FOX47. You can follow this link to watch their story. Thank you to KTTC and FOX 47 for airing this special delivery. Also thank you to KROC AM, KROC FM, Y105 FM and KNXR FM for promoting our Singing Valentines on their Valentine Day morning broadcasts.
The Music Men sang at the 57th annual Eagle Fifth District Cancer Telethon on January 20, 2011, joining forces with many great performers - from stand-up comedians to folk singers - to raise money for cancer research. The event raised over $700,000 for the Mayo Clinic, Hormel Institute for Cancer Research and U of M Cancer Research. For chorus members, it was a rewarding experience knowing that their contributions would help in the fight against cancer and the thousands of Minnesotans diagnosed with cancer every year.
Everyone loves a parade! From Pine Island to Mantorville, the Music Men had a busy parade schedule this summer with visits to eight community celebrations - Preston Trout Days, Pine Island Cheese Festival, Elgin Cheese Days, Rochester Fest, Grand Meadow Meadowfest, Chatfield Western Days, Kenyon Rose Fest and Plainview Corn on the Cob Days. It's our favorite part of the summer schedule, sharing our music with a large new audience, many of whom may not have experienced barbershop music before.
Between parade events, we sang our National Anthem at a Honkers Baseball Game in Rochester. Afterwards we sat down and enjoyed a game of baseball on a beautiful summer evening. In July, as part of the Pine Island - Pine Area People for the Arts Annual Summer Concert Series, the chorus performed a one hour concert at the Old Cheese Factory by the City Park. It was a warm summer night, topped off with an ice cream social hosted by the United Methodist Church/Red Bird Mission.
In July, 2009, the Rochester Music Men and wives had an outing which included a visit to the National Eagle Center in Wabasha, Minnesota. Wabasha is located on the shores of the Mississippi River that are next to vast acres of river bottom land which has open water year-round, thereby supplying access to fish (food for the eagles). Thousands of eagles migrate from the North to this area every year. While the chorus was there, they sang a few songs. As a result of this exposure, the chorus was hired to do two performances at the Eagle Center's Migration Celebration on November 7, 2009. The chorus sang "America" as the last song in each presentation and were joined by resident eagle "Columbia" who beautifully spread her wings during the tag of the song. The chorus was thrilled and proud to have such a distinguished guest join them in song.
